John is considered a heavy cynic. Although he does many things for the benefit of others, if someone were to best describe Kaplan, the most-used word would be "ass". With a tongue often quicker and sometimes sharper than his mind, if he isn't rambling on about something nonsensical, he's probably tearing someone down. Despite this, those who have gotten the chance to know him can say that he's reliable, and often puts the needs of others before his own. In his moments of weakness, John is known to question his actions, wondering if he should have been the one to die at birth, or what would have happened if he chose a different life. John speaks with a heavy street accent, acquired over years of dealing with the grittier places in the world.

History:

John Kaplan is a sorcerer, born and partially raised in New York City, before being taken to live in Liverpool, England, by his father. His mother and twin brother Thomas Kaplan, Jr, died while his mother was giving birth to the twins.

Later, he and his sister, Cheryl, were brought to live with their aunt and uncle when their father was sent to prison for charges of abuse and sexual misconduct. It was here that John first started diving into the occult, learning the power of mantras.

Later in life, John met one of his best friends, a man known as Elijah "Eli" Chandler, a superhuman who'd chosen to hide his abilities. Having several adventures, the two eventually split paths, John wanting to delve further into the occult, and Eli unable to just watch his friend delve deeper into the unknown.

In his early twenties, John became more involved with the occult, joining several circles before eventually leaving them. John Kaplan eventually became known for his eclectic knowledge in many forms of magic, but most particularly in the field of chaos magic, a dangerous and random form of craft that often dealed with manipulating probability.

Skills and Powers:

John Kaplan uses a mixture of magic and street fighting, often lacing his attacks with offensive spells or probability-altering charms, giving him and edge in battle. He claims patronage in several religions, and does know several arts usually found used only by those in a certain religion. Being very mingled in his magical prowess, John has also shown mastery over several forms of magic, including healing, divination, necromancy, golemancy, Chaos Magic, Holy Magic, black magic, summoning and banishing, various Shinto magic arts, and illusory magic.

In addition to his magical ability, John is an expert con artist, proficient in sleight of hand, hypnosis, manipulation, and escapology.

John Kaplan is an original character based in the Marvel/DC crossover universe known as Amalgam, a mixture of John Constantine and the Young Avenger Wiccan, otherwise known as Billy Kaplan. Everything about this character is likely going to be a bad mixture of two fantastic characters, so this is just a warning. also, Wiccan and Constantine belong to their respective companies.
